I am interested in understanding how the key surface and atmospheric predictor variables of lake-induced precipitation (LIP) influence the development, onset, intensity, frequency and duration of wintertime precipitation over the Laurentian Great Lakes. I use a set of precipitation-to-snowfall conversion algorithms to derive monthly snowfall totals (for data sparse regions) from daily interpolated precipitation observations at 1 km resolution to determine the spatiotemporal trends and changes in the intensity, frequency, and duration of extreme lake induced precipitation.
